Invest in Joy
I have come to realise that this world does not celebrate joy, rather, it celebrates misery. There is no merit without hard work, no gain without pain, the cookie that was so good turns into guilt, the night you spent out turns into extra work the next day to compensate. Why?
Joy can coexist with negative feelings, anger and pain that are part of any fight. Dominating narratives portray activism and activists as angry, frustrated and decadent. Media often portrays activists as depressed, angry or dissipated by their activism. What we need is for the spotlight to be put on Joy just as much as it is on pain.
